Prof dr ir J.A.A. Mekel was professor in historical geology and paleontology and participated in the resistance during the Second World War. He was arrested and executed on May 2 1942. The platform has decided to dedicate this prize to Prof. Mekel because he symbolized resistance and dignity.

 

Essay prize 2009 for students

By introducing an annual essay prize for students, the Platform intends to stimulate students to contribute to the visibility and clarification of moral issues that may occur in the engineering practice. The winner receives Euro 1000, - as well as an official certificate. The Platform strives for publication of the winning essay. Students can enter the competition both individually as well as in groups (maximum of five persons, one of which should be appointed first author).

This year there is no prize for PhD-students, designers-in-training and teachers-in-training, given its bi-annual status
